A week after the tragic death of a 32-year-old woman police constable in Uttar Pradesh, the police have registered a case of abetment to suicide against two of her colleagues. The incident has sent shockwaves through the police department in the Aligarh region.
Case Registered After Brother's Complaint
The woman constable, who was posted at the Banna Devi police station in Aligarh district, died on November 29. Following her death, her brother filed a formal complaint, leading to legal action. Based on his allegations, a case under Section 108 (abetment of suicide) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered.
The accused have been identified as Sub-Inspector Sandeep Kumar, who was earlier posted at Banna Devi and is now in Kasganj, and Constable Kulveer Balyan, posted at the Rorawar police station. The First Information Report (FIR) was filed at the Banna Devi police station.
Station House Officer (SHO) of Banna Devi, Shiv Pratap Singh, confirmed the development. He stated that the case was registered after the brother alleged that the two policemen were mentally tormenting and harassing his sister, which ultimately forced her to take the extreme step.
A Story of Relationships and Alleged Harassment
According to the family's account, the sequence of events involves personal relationships that turned sour. The brother explained in his complaint that his sister was working on the Integrated Grievance Redressal System portal at the Rorawar police station.
He revealed that some time ago, his sister had informed the family that marriage talks were underway with SI Sandeep Kumar, who was then posted at Banna Devi. However, after Kumar was transferred to Kasganj, those discussions reportedly ended.
Later, the woman constable was transferred to Rorawar, where she met Constable Kulveer Balyan. The two grew close, and the family was informed that they were planning to get married. Before her death, she had even spoken to Balyan's family about a prospective visit.
The situation allegedly turned dark when Balyan discovered the past marriage talks between the woman and SI Kumar. The brother's complaint claims that Balyan then met Kumar, and subsequently, the two men began harassing the woman constable together.
Ongoing Investigation and Departmental Scrutiny
The registration of the case marks a critical turn in the investigation into the constable's death. The local police are now obligated to investigate the serious allegations made by the grieving family. The case puts the conduct of the accused policemen under intense scrutiny and raises questions about the internal environment within the police force.
As the probe unfolds, authorities will need to examine call records, messages, and statements from colleagues to establish the validity of the harassment claims. The incident highlights the urgent need for robust mechanisms to address harassment and mental well-being within the police force, especially for women personnel.
The death of the young constable is a profound loss, and the subsequent case ensures that the circumstances leading to her tragic decision will be thoroughly examined by the law.
