Two UP Police Inspectors Suspended in Ballia Over Viral Audio Clip Involving Rape Survivor
In a shocking development from Varanasi, two police inspectors in Ballia district have been suspended following the viral circulation of an audio clip on social media. The clip allegedly captures one of the officers seeking sexual favors from a rape survivor in exchange for filing a chargesheet against the accused.
Details of the Suspension and Investigation
Ballia Superintendent of Police Omvir Singh confirmed the suspensions on Wednesday, stating that the action was taken after a video and audio clip gained traction online. CO Rasra Alok Kumar Gupta was tasked with probing the matter. The audio reportedly features a conversation between inspector Naresh Mohan, who served as inspector crime at Ubhao police station until April 1, and the complainant regarding the case's chargesheet.
Based on CO Rasra's investigation report, inspector Naresh Mohan and Ubhao SHO Sanjay Shukla were suspended for being prima facie guilty. A departmental inquiry has been initiated against both officers. Additionally, CO Rasra has been directed to speak with the complainant and ensure necessary legal actions are taken in the case.
Background of the Rape Case
The rape survivor, a resident of a village under Ubhao police station jurisdiction, filed an FIR on February 21 against a forest sub-inspector. She alleged that he married her in a temple and established physical relations, promising a court marriage. However, when she pressured him to formalize the union, he destroyed evidence of their wedding and refused to cohabit with her.
After the FIR was lodged, the investigation was assigned to the in-charge of the relevant police outpost. CO Rasra noted that a chargesheet had already been filed in March following the arrest of the accused, who was jailed on February 24.
Allegations Against the Suspended Officers
CO Rasra revealed that inspector Naresh Mohan, despite having no connection to the case and being transferred from Ubhao police station in early April, began contacting the rape survivor. He allegedly demanded that she meet him alone to facilitate the filing of the chargesheet. Evidence, including the audio clip, supports these allegations against Mohan.
Similar accusations have been leveled against SHO Sanjay Shukla, although the survivor has not presented concrete evidence against him at this time. The ongoing inquiry aims to uncover further details and ensure accountability in this distressing case.
