Uttar Pradesh STF Apprehends Two Notorious Cattle Smugglers with Substantial Bounties in Meerut

The Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) executed a significant operation in Meerut on Saturday, resulting in the arrest of two alleged cattle smugglers who were each carrying a reward of Rs 50,000. The accused individuals, identified as Padma, aged 45 and a resident of Bulandshahr, and Sajjad Khan, aged 55 from Shamli, were apprehended near the Aurai Lala Nagar toll plaza on the Varanasi–Prayagraj road.

Intelligence-Led Operation Leads to Capture

Acting on precise intelligence inputs, an STF team successfully located and detained the duo. Additional Superintendent of Police Brajesh Kumar Singh confirmed the details of the operation, stating that the arrests were made based on actionable information regarding their movements and activities.

The accused were wanted under the stringent Gangsters Act in a case originally registered in Chandauli district. This legal framework is often invoked against individuals involved in organized crime, highlighting the serious nature of their alleged offenses.

History of Illegal Activities and Multiple Cases

During subsequent interrogation, Padma and Sajjad Khan disclosed to police investigators that they had been actively engaged in cattle smuggling operations since 2017. Their modus operandi involved purchasing animals and transporting them illegally for slaughter purposes.

Padma has a prior criminal record, having been arrested previously in a cattle slaughter case in Varanasi. Despite being released on bail, he reportedly resumed his illicit activities, which expanded to include not only cattle smuggling but also liquor smuggling.

Police authorities revealed that nearly half a dozen other criminal cases are registered against both accused individuals across various jurisdictions. Their associate, identified as Shamshad, remains at large and is believed to have been part of their smuggling network.

Broader Implications and Law Enforcement Efforts

The arrests underscore the ongoing efforts by Uttar Pradesh law enforcement agencies to combat organized crime, particularly in sectors like cattle smuggling which often involve cross-district operations. The placement of substantial bounties on the accused indicates their perceived threat level and the priority given to their capture.

This case also highlights the challenges authorities face when individuals released on bail return to criminal enterprises, necessitating continued vigilance and coordinated action between different police units and task forces.
