Uttar Pradesh Government Expands Judicial Network to Accelerate Justice Delivery

In a major initiative aimed at ensuring swift justice, particularly for cases involving crimes against women, the Uttar Pradesh government has significantly bolstered its judicial infrastructure and expanded the network of Fast Track Courts across the state.

Regularization and Expansion of Fast Track Courts

According to the budget provisions for the fiscal year 2026-27, the government has regularized 81 Fast Track Courts to guarantee their uninterrupted operation and faster adjudication of sensitive cases. This move is expected to streamline the judicial process and reduce delays in critical matters.

Additionally, 212 temporary Fast Track Courts under the Negotiable Instruments (NI) Act will continue to function, addressing the growing backlog of cheque bounce and financial dispute cases. These courts play a crucial role in resolving commercial conflicts efficiently.

New Courts and Enhanced Funding

To further improve case disposal rates and alleviate pressure on existing courts, the government has approved the establishment of 38 additional courts and 5 special courts or concurrent posts. This expansion is part of a broader strategy to enhance the judicial system's capacity.

The government has proposed a total outlay of Rs 9,845 crore for the judicial department in 2026-27, marking a 9% increase over the previous financial year. This substantial funding underscores the commitment to strengthening judicial infrastructure.

Under a pilot project, a separate provision of Rs 1,000 crore has been allocated for the construction of new court complexes. This initiative aims to modernize facilities and create a more conducive environment for legal proceedings.

Focus on Efficiency and Public Confidence

Officials emphasized that the combined focus on infrastructure expansion and institutional strengthening is designed to deliver timely justice, enhance operational efficiency, and improve public confidence in the judicial system. By addressing pendency and backlog, the government seeks to ensure that justice is not only served but served swiftly.

The comprehensive approach includes regularizing courts, adding new ones, and investing in infrastructure, all aimed at creating a more responsive and effective judicial framework in Uttar Pradesh.
