UP Tourism Minister Elaborates on Policy-Driven Development of Religious Sites

In a detailed statement to the Uttar Pradesh Assembly on Thursday, Tourism and Culture Minister Jaiveer Singh emphasized that all tourism projects across the state are being executed strictly in accordance with departmental guidelines, budget availability, and clear land status. This structured approach aims to ensure transparency and phased development in the tourism sector.

Minister Addresses Specific Site Concerns Across Districts

Responding to queries regarding religious sites in Lalitpur, Sitapur, Jhansi, and Mirzapur, Minister Singh outlined the government's commitment to a policy-driven framework for tourism growth. He provided specific clarifications on various sites, highlighting the adherence to established norms and jurisdictional boundaries.

Neelkantheshwar Dham in Lalitpur Under ASI Jurisdiction

Regarding Neelkantheshwar Dham in Lalitpur, Singh clarified that the shrine falls under the jurisdiction of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). Consequently, any development or renovation activities must strictly adhere to ASI norms and regulations, ensuring the preservation of historical and cultural integrity.

Basic Amenities Provided at Rameshwar Dham in Sitapur

For Rameshwar Dham at Ganga Sagar Teerth in Sitapur, the minister stated that the tourism department provides essential visitor amenities such as toilets, drinking water facilities, lighting, and signage wherever permissible. However, he noted that structural renovation and repair works are not covered under the existing departmental norms, limiting the scope of intervention.

Phased Development Planned for Temples in Jhansi

In Jhansi, Singh announced that the development of Anjani Mata Temple in Babina, Ram Janaki Temple in Garautha, and Shri Madha Sarkar Temple in Mauranipur will be undertaken in phases. These projects are subject to budget provisions and strict adherence to departmental guidelines, ensuring systematic progress without overextension of resources.

Erosion Concerns at Mirzapur Sites Referred to Irrigation Department

Addressing concerns over erosion threats to Shri Chitragupt Temple and Chitragupt Ghat in Mirzapur, the minister clarified that river protection works fall under the purview of the irrigation department. The matter has been referred accordingly, highlighting the inter-departmental coordination required for such environmental and structural issues.

Safety Standards and Regulatory Framework Explained

On the topic of safety standards, Singh detailed the regulatory framework: hotels are registered under the Sarai Act by district magistrates, while bars and restaurants operate outside the tourism department's direct purview. Safety checks and inspections are conducted by police, fire services, and local authorities, ensuring compliance with broader safety regulations.

Completion of Works at Maa Sankata Devi Dham in Sitapur

The minister also informed the Assembly that Rs 87.01 lakh was sanctioned in 2022 for the development of Maa Sankata Devi Dham in Mahmoodabad, Sitapur, and the approved works have been completed. However, he noted that construction of a permanent ghat around the pond is not permissible under current guidelines, reflecting the strict adherence to policy constraints.

Overall, Minister Singh's statements underscore a methodical and transparent approach to tourism development in Uttar Pradesh, balancing growth with regulatory compliance and resource management.
