The UT Police has suspended head constable Jai Pal, who was involved in a hit-and-run incident in Manimajra on Saturday, where he rammed his car into two scooterists, leaving them injured. A medical report confirmed that Jai Pal was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. The police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against him under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Details of the Incident
The incident took place on Saturday night around 10:30 PM. Kuldeep Chand was riding his scooter on the road behind Manimajra Civil Hospital when Jai Pal's car knocked him down. The victim sustained fractures in his hands and legs. After the first accident, the accused fled from the scene but struck another scooter rider a short distance away. Alert residents in the market area caught the accused and handed him over to the police.
Police Action
Following the arrests, the UT Police promptly suspended head constable Jai Pal. The medical report confirmed that he was under the influence of liquor at the time of the accident. An FIR has been registered under the relevant sections of the BNS for causing hurt by rash and negligent driving and endangering public safety.
