Uttarakhand Engineer Held for Rs 50,000 Bribe

Dehradun: The Uttarakhand vigilance department on Thursday arrested a junior engineer of Jal Vidyut Nigam Ltd (JVNL) for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 from a contractor. The action was taken after a complaint was received through the department's toll-free helpline, 1064.

Details of the Case

V Murugesan, director of the vigilance department, stated that the complainant had secured a tender for a project at the Pahuslok barrage and had completed the work. However, junior engineer Faisal Khan was allegedly demanding a bribe to clear the payment for the project. Preliminary verification of the complaint confirmed the allegations, leading the vigilance department to set up a trap.

The Trap and Arrest

Under the trap, the complainant met Khan and handed over Rs 50,000. As soon as Khan accepted the money, vigilance sleuths caught him red-handed in Kashipur of Udham Singh Nagar district. He was arrested under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act and the BNS.
