Woman Forced to Flee Matrimonial Home, Abandon Children
In a heart-wrenching account presented before the court, the woman detailed how she was compelled to leave her matrimonial home under duress, abandoning her two young children in the process. Her daughter, aged approximately eight years, and son, around five years old, remain separated from their mother due to the alleged hostile environment. Currently, she is residing with a friend in Roorkee, seeking refuge from the perceived danger.
Fear for Life and Safety Drives Plea for Protection
During the court proceedings, the woman expressed profound fear for her life and personal safety, stating that her husband and in-laws are determined to harm her. She further revealed her intention to initiate legal proceedings against them under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act. However, she has been unable to approach the competent court due to overwhelming fear and intimidation, highlighting the barriers victims often face in seeking justice.
Vacation Bench Issues Directive for Police Action
A vacation bench headed by Justice Alok Mehra on Thursday issued a clear directive to the police authorities. The bench ordered that if a genuine threat is found upon assessment, the police must provide appropriate and necessary security to the woman in accordance with the law.
