Family Dispute in Uttarakhand Leads to Amputation: Brother, Sister-in-law Arrested
Uttarakhand man loses hands after family dispute, infection

A horrific family dispute in Uttarakhand's Tehri district has resulted in a young man losing both his hands after a severe infection set in due to delayed medical treatment. The incident, stemming from alleged violence by his elder brother and sister-in-law, has led to their arrest by the police.

Alleged Attack During Village Dispute

Angrez Singh Bisht, a 25-year-old resident of Lasiyal village in the Ghansali block, has accused his elder brother, Purab Bisht (28), and sister-in-law, Anjali (25), of a brutal assault. According to his complaint filed with the Ghansali police, the trio had been engaged in repeated verbal arguments. Angrez, who was working with Purab at a hotel in Mumbai, was called back to the village where tensions escalated.

The situation turned violent on the afternoon of December 20. Angrez alleges that his brother and sister-in-law attacked him with sharp-edged weapons, inflicting deep cuts on both his hands. The injuries were severe and caused profuse bleeding before he could be taken for any medical help.

Delayed Treatment and Medical Emergency

Police reports indicate that it was Purab who took his injured brother to a community health centre in Baleshwar the following day. Due to the seriousness of the wounds, doctors referred Angrez to a higher facility. He was subsequently shifted to hospitals in Srinagar and later to Rishikesh for advanced treatment.

However, the delay in initiating proper medical care proved catastrophic. A severe infection developed in both of Angrez's injured hands. Despite efforts at a prominent hospital, the infection spread to such an extent that doctors were left with no choice. To save Angrez's life, a double amputation of his arms became medically unavoidable.

Police Reject Amputation Allegation, Make Arrests

Ghansali Station House Officer (SHO) Ajay Kumar Jhatav addressed the serious allegation that the amputation was a deliberate act by the brother. "The claims that the brother got his hands amputated are baseless," Jhatav stated. He clarified that it was Purab who was continuously taking the victim to different hospitals for treatment. The amputation was a tragic consequence of the life-threatening infection caused by the initial delay.

Based on Angrez Bisht's complaint, the police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Purab Bisht and Anjali. Both the accused were arrested on Wednesday as the investigation into the alleged assault continues. The case highlights the devastating real-world consequences of familial conflicts and the critical importance of timely medical intervention.
