In a significant move to enhance law enforcement and security in its remote border regions, the Uttarkashi district police have formally submitted a proposal to the state government. The plan seeks to establish several new police reporting outposts, effectively replacing the long-standing revenue police system in these challenging terrains.
Strategic Locations for Enhanced Security
The proposal identifies specific villages and blocks where regular police presence is critically needed. Areas like Doni in the Mori block, along with Jogat and Banchora in Chinyalisaur, are slated to get dedicated police outposts. Furthermore, the historic village of Nelang-Jadung will be brought under the jurisdiction of the Harsil police station, marking a pivotal shift in its administrative oversight.
Police authorities have outlined a comprehensive list for the new infrastructure. The proposed locations include:
- Nelang under Harsil police station
- Pipali Manjkot under Kotwali police station
- Jogat and Banchora under Dharasu police station
- Banaugarh under Purola police station
- Doni under Mori police station
Additionally, the plan includes supplementing existing facilities with new outposts in Dharasu, Mori, and Purola.
Addressing Challenges of Terrain and Access
The initiative is driven by the unique difficulties of policing vast, sparsely populated stretches, especially near the sensitive India-China border. Locations such as Jogat, Banchora, and Doni are situated in extremely difficult and remote terrain, making the current revenue police system inadequate for modern security needs.
A major benefit for local residents will be drastically improved access to police services. Currently, villagers often have to undertake arduous journeys of nearly 50 to 80 kilometers to reach the nearest main police station. The new outposts will bring law enforcement to their doorstep.
Border Coordination and Broader Security Agenda
Superintendent of Police Kamlesh Upadhyay confirmed that a proposal for the construction of six new police outposts, including the one at Nelang, has been sent to the government. He stated that further actionable steps will be taken upon receiving official approval.
The proposal aligns with broader security coordination efforts. On Monday, SP Upadhyay chaired a high-level border coordination meeting at the Bhagirathi Conference Hall in Gyansu. The meeting included officers from the Army, ITBP, Intelligence Bureau, BRO, and other central and state security agencies.
Discussions focused on strengthening border security arrangements, preventing illegal activities, and improving crime control through enhanced inter-agency coordination. The agenda also covered development and security in Vibrant Village areas, strategies to curb drug trafficking, and plans to raise public awareness about cyber and social crimes via the community radio station in Harsil.
The establishment of these police outposts is expected to significantly improve surveillance and create a more robust security framework in collaboration with the Army, ITBP, and other agencies stationed along the frontier.
