Vadodara: In a swift breakthrough in the murder case that shook Vadodara, the crime branch on Friday arrested the prime accused for allegedly stabbing a 30-year-old man to death in public earlier this month. The accused was tracked down after he briefly fled to Mumbai.
The Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) arrested Darshan Marwadi from the Kapurai area upon his return to the city. He had been absconding since the June 3 murder of Girish Bhaliya in the Kalali area.
Police said Marwadi, a known bootlegger with several prohibition cases, had fled to Mumbai after the killing.
According to Atladara police, Bhaliya was attending a social function with his wife Puja when Darshan, along with an accomplice Karan Marwadi, reached the venue and attacked Bhaliya as he was leaving. Puja raised the alarm, but the attackers fled.
Investigators said the motive stemmed from an earlier dispute, and the duo had planned the attack. A few months ago, Darshan had allegedly harassed Puja. A community meeting was later held, where Darshan admitted to the harassment and apologized.
Police said Darshan felt humiliated and remained resentful towards Bhaliya and Puja, which led to the killing.
Atladara police had registered a murder case against Darshan Marwadi and Karan Marwadi. Karan remains absconding.
