In a major breakthrough against the recurring two-wheeler thefts that have been troubling Vadodara, the city police on Friday apprehended a serial motorbike thief accused of stealing nine motorcycles from parking areas over the past few months and selling them for quick cash.
Arrest Made Following Tip-Off
The Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) arrested Manhar Vadi after receiving a tip-off that he was attempting to sell a motorcycle near Ajabdi Mill. When police arrived at the scene and questioned him, Vadi failed to produce valid documents for the vehicle and later confessed to stealing it 12 days earlier from Atladara.
Confession and Modus Operandi
During interrogation, Vadi admitted to stealing eight other motorcycles over the past eight months. He specifically targeted vehicles parked in areas such as Fatehgunj, Atladara, Bil Road, and Chhani, focusing on those belonging to individuals who commuted to nearby villages for work.
Police stated that Vadi, a resident of Tandalja, sold the stolen motorbikes to earn quick money. So far, authorities have recovered two stolen motorcycles from his possession.
Prior Criminal Record
Vadi has a criminal history, with three cases of vehicle theft registered against him at Harni, Karelibaug, and Sama police stations. Further investigation is ongoing to trace the remaining stolen vehicles and identify the buyers.
