Vadodara Police Apprehend Serial Mobile Phone Thief
In a significant breakthrough, Vadodara police arrested a man on Sunday who is allegedly involved in a series of mobile phone thefts across the city. The accused, identified as Vikram Koli, a resident of Karodia Road, was taken into custody following a tip-off received by law enforcement authorities.
Modus Operandi of the Accused
According to police officials, Koli would conduct detailed reconnaissance of various bridges and flyovers in Vadodara before committing the thefts. His primary targets were laborers sleeping under these structures, from whom he would stealthily steal mobile phones. During questioning, Koli admitted to stealing a phone from a laborer sleeping under a bridge, which led to his arrest when he failed to produce a purchase bill for the recovered device.
Police investigations revealed that Koli's criminal activities were not limited to public spaces. He also confessed to breaking into two residential houses and stealing mobile phones from those premises. To evade detection, he allegedly sold the stolen phones outside the state of Gujarat, making it difficult for authorities to trace the devices back to the thefts.
Criminal History and Ongoing Investigation
Vikram Koli has a substantial criminal record, with more than 10 offences registered against him at various police stations in both Kutch and Vadodara. This history underscores his involvement in persistent unlawful activities over time.
Police tracked Koli down in the Bajwa area based on the information they received. Following his arrest, authorities are conducting further investigations to determine whether he was involved in additional thefts in and around Vadodara. The case highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat property crimes in urban areas.
This arrest serves as a reminder for citizens to remain vigilant, especially in public sleeping areas, and to report any suspicious activities to the police promptly.
