Vadodara Police Crack Down on Temple Theft Ring with Arrest of Serial Offender

In a significant breakthrough, the Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) in Vadodara apprehended a man on Sunday who is allegedly responsible for a string of temple burglaries across the city. The arrest followed a coordinated police operation based on actionable intelligence.

Tip-Off Leads to Swift Arrest in Sardar Estate Area

Acting on a specific tip-off, law enforcement officials were alerted that the suspect was circulating in the Sardar Estate locality while carrying silver ornaments and actively seeking potential buyers. A specialized police team was immediately dispatched to the scene, where they successfully intercepted and detained the individual.

The accused has been identified as Rohit Barot, aged 25. Upon his apprehension, officers conducted a preliminary search and discovered incriminating evidence in his possession.

Recovery of Stolen Items and Interrogation Revelations

During the initial questioning, Barot could not provide a credible explanation for the silver crowns found inside his bag. The police also seized a silver ornament and a hammer from him, which are believed to be tools used in the commission of the crimes.

Subsequent interrogation revealed that Barot allegedly confessed to carrying out burglaries at temples not only in Vadodara's Warasia area but also in the neighboring district of Anand. This confession points to a broader pattern of criminal activity spanning multiple jurisdictions.

Extensive Criminal History Unveiled

Further investigation into Barot's background uncovered a lengthy criminal record. Police records indicate that he has more than 11 offences registered against him at various police stations. His prior charges include:

  • Burglary
  • Theft
  • Gambling
  • Offences under the Prohibition Act

This history suggests a persistent involvement in illicit activities, with the temple thefts representing a recent escalation in his criminal behavior. The police are now working to determine the full extent of his involvement in these and potentially other unsolved cases.

The arrest has been hailed as a crucial step in curbing temple thefts in the region, with authorities emphasizing their commitment to protecting religious institutions and maintaining public safety. The investigation remains ongoing as police seek to recover all stolen items and identify any possible accomplices.
