Vaishali Police Uncover Major Interstate Liquor Smuggling Operation

In a significant crackdown on illegal liquor trade, the Belsar police station in Vaishali district, Bihar, uncovered a major smuggling operation in the early hours of Tuesday. Authorities recovered foreign liquor valued at approximately Rs 25 lakh from a concealed compartment inside a truck, marking a substantial blow to illicit activities in the region.

Police Action Based on Tip-Off

Police received specific information that a truck had been parked for several hours at Nagma Hanuman Chowk. Responding swiftly, Belsar police station in-charge Praveen Kumar rushed to the location along with his team around 2 am on Tuesday and initiated a thorough search of the vehicle.

At first glance, the truck appeared to be carrying ordinary sacks of lime (chuna). However, owing to heightened suspicion, the officers ordered the removal of the sacks. This action revealed a cleverly constructed hidden cellar beneath the load, designed to evade detection.

Seizure Details and Escape of Suspects

Inside the concealed compartment, police discovered 235 cartons of foreign liquor, totaling 2,033 litres, carefully stashed away. The estimated market value of the seized consignment stands at around Rs 25 lakh, according to Kumar. He added that as the police team approached the truck, the driver and an accompanying smuggler fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle in their haste to escape.

The SHO confirmed that authorities seized the truck and towed it to the police station for further examination and forensic analysis. This step is crucial for gathering evidence and building a strong case against the perpetrators.

Investigation into Interstate Smuggling Network

Preliminary investigations indicate that the liquor originated from Punjab and entered Vaishali district via Muzaffarpur. Police are actively probing the intended delivery destination within Bihar and working diligently to identify the gang or network orchestrating this interstate smuggling racket. Kumar emphasized that efforts are underway to trace the supply chain and apprehend all individuals involved, highlighting the collaborative nature of such criminal operations across state lines.

This incident underscores the ongoing challenges in combating illegal liquor trade in Bihar, where such activities often exploit logistical loopholes. The successful seizure demonstrates the effectiveness of prompt police action based on credible intelligence, serving as a deterrent to similar smuggling attempts in the future.
