Valuables stolen from DRDO scientist's flat in Delhi

NEW DELHI: In a shocking incident, valuables including jewellery, cash, and foreign currency worth several lakhs were allegedly stolen from a woman scientist's flat inside the high-security DRDO residential complex in north Delhi's Timarpur area, police said on Tuesday.

Incident Details

The theft came to light when the scientist returned to her residence on May 23 after a trip to Chandigarh, where she had gone on May 15 to meet her family. Upon arrival, she found her house ransacked and several items missing.

Stolen Items

According to police, the stolen property includes Rs 15,000 in cash, foreign currency, and jewellery comprising a necklace set with earrings, bangles, chains, and rings. Additionally, three watches were also taken. The total value of the theft is still being assessed but is estimated to run into several lakhs.

Investigation Underway

A case has been registered at Timarpur police station, and an investigation is in progress. Crime and forensic teams have inspected the scene, and CCTV footage from within the residential complex and nearby areas is being examined to identify the suspects. Police suspect that the burglars may have conducted a recce before targeting the flat. No arrests have been made so far.
