Varanasi Gym Floor Manager Files Sexual Harassment Case Against Member

A woman working as a floor manager at a gym in Varanasi has lodged a formal complaint with the Shivpur police, accusing a member of the facility of sexually harassing her and issuing threats of dire consequences. The incident has sparked concerns over safety in public spaces and the handling of such complaints.

Police Register Case Based on Complaint

Shivpur police station in-charge Ajit Kumar Verma confirmed on Wednesday that a case has been registered against the accused, identified as Ranu alias Aarup Yadav, a resident of the Shivpur Chungi area. The charges include sexual assault and threatening behavior. Verma stated that an investigation is currently underway, and further action will be determined based on the outcomes of this probe.

Details of the Allegations

In her complaint, the woman detailed that shortly after she joined the gym, Ranu began misbehaving with her. When she objected to his actions, he allegedly responded with verbal abuse and threats to kill her. The situation escalated as the accused started stalking her not only within the gym premises but also outside, following her up to her home. This persistent behavior caused her significant distress and fear for her safety.

Lack of Response from Authorities

The complainant reported that she attempted to seek help by informing Ranu's family members, the gym manager, and the owner about the misconduct. However, despite her efforts, there was no cessation in his harassing behavior. She emphasized that the accused's actions were captured on the gym's CCTV cameras, providing potential evidence to support her claims. The woman has demanded immediate action to address the situation and ensure her protection.

This case highlights ongoing issues related to workplace safety and the effectiveness of mechanisms to address harassment complaints in India. The police investigation is expected to shed light on the allegations and determine the appropriate legal steps.
