Varanasi Police Arrest Man for Alleged Murder Following Cow Meat Deception Incident

In a shocking case from Uttar Pradesh, the Varanasi police have apprehended a 24-year-old man for the alleged murder of his friend, whose body was discovered in a field earlier this month. The accused, identified as Virendra Yadav, has reportedly confessed to killing his former colleague, 28-year-old Aftab Alam, citing severe humiliation stemming from an incident where he was deceived into consuming what he believed to be cow meat.

Discovery of the Body and Initial Investigation

On January 8, 2026, authorities received a tip-off about an unidentified male body lying near a pond in Mahagaon Madai village. A police team swiftly arrived at the scene and recovered the body, which exhibited visible signs of trauma, including blood from the mouth and nose. During a thorough search of the area, investigators found a bag containing an identity card belonging to Aftab Alam, son of Kalamuddin, along with employment details linking him to Siddharth Automatic India Private Limited. The deceased was subsequently identified as a resident of Chapra in Bihar.

Following standard inquest procedures, the body was sent for an autopsy and later handed over to the family, who conducted the last rites in their native village. The case took a significant turn on January 21 when the victim's family approached the Sindhaura police station in Varanasi, expressing suspicions of foul play and highlighting unusual financial transactions from Aftab's bank account into Virendra's.

Suspicious Financial Transactions and Murder Case Registration

Police investigations revealed that on January 8, the very day the body was recovered, a sum of Rs 40,000 was transferred via UPI to Virendra Yadav's account. This discovery raised serious red flags and prompted authorities to take immediate action. Based on the formal complaint filed by the family, the police registered a case of murder and launched a comprehensive investigation into the matter.

Through diligent probing, law enforcement officials identified Virendra Yadav, a resident of Laskarpur village under the Cholapur police station in Varanasi, as the prime suspect in the case. He was subsequently arrested on January 25, marking a crucial breakthrough in the investigation.

Interrogation Reveals Motive Behind the Murder

During interrogation, Virendra Yadav provided a detailed account of his relationship with the victim. He disclosed that both he and Aftab Alam had previously lived and worked together as helpers at a Bengaluru-based firm. The accused alleged that in September of the previous year, Aftab had deceived him into consuming meat, later revealing the incident to others, which led to widespread ridicule and humiliation within their social circle.

According to police statements, Virendra claimed that this profound sense of humiliation and betrayal drove him to meticulously plan and execute the murder of his former friend. The emotional and psychological impact of the deception, particularly in a context where dietary practices hold significant cultural and religious importance, appears to have been a key factor in the tragic outcome.

This case highlights the complex interplay of personal grievances, cultural sensitivities, and criminal behavior, underscoring the importance of thorough police work in uncovering the truth behind such heinous acts.
