Varanasi Man Arrested for Allegedly Murdering Friend Over Meat Deception Incident
In a shocking case from Varanasi, police have arrested a 24-year-old man for allegedly killing his friend after the victim reportedly tricked him into consuming suspected cow meat. The incident, which occurred in September last year, led to severe humiliation for the accused, ultimately driving him to commit the fatal crime.
Details of the Crime and Investigation
According to police reports, the accused, identified as Virendra Yadav, strangled his friend, Aftab Alam, and disposed of the body in a village within the Sindhaura area of Varanasi. Virendra is a resident of Varanasi, while Aftab hailed from Chhapra district in Bihar. The investigation revealed that both men had been working as helpers for a Bengaluru-based firm, with recent postings in Gujarat and Chennai, respectively.
Gyanendra Tripathi, the Station House Officer of Sindhaura police station, stated that during interrogation, Virendra confessed to the murder. He alleged that Aftab had deceived him into eating the meat and later shared the incident with others, making Virendra a target of ridicule among their acquaintances. This humiliation fueled his anger and resentment, leading him to plot the crime.
Police Investigation and Arrest
The case came to light on January 8, when police recovered an unidentified body from a field. The body was later identified as Aftab's after an identity card was found in a nearby bag. Authorities contacted the deceased's family in Bihar and conducted a post-mortem examination.
During the investigation, police collected call detail records and bank information, discovering that Aftab was in regular contact with a number traced to Virendra. Additionally, Rs 40,000 had been transferred from Aftab's bank account to Virendra's. With Virendra's phone switched off, police tracked him down and arrested him in Varanasi on Monday.
Sequence of Events Leading to the Murder
Police reports indicate that Virendra planned the murder after Aftab informed him of his plans to return to duty in Chennai on January 7. Virendra convinced Aftab to come to Varanasi instead, while he took leave from work and traveled to the city by train. The two met at Varanasi railway station on January 7, and after a brief exchange, Virendra left, promising to meet later.
In the evening, Virendra, accompanied by an associate, met Aftab near the railway station on a motorcycle. Under the pretext of taking him home, they led him to a secluded spot, where they allegedly attacked and strangled him. The body was then dumped in a field, and the accused fled the scene.
Evidence and Ongoing Investigation
Police have recovered the victim's PAN card, Aadhaar card, and other personal documents from Virendra's possession. Authorities are also searching for Virendra's associate, who is believed to have been involved in the crime. The investigation continues as police piece together the full details of this tragic incident.
