Varanasi Police Encounter Leads to Arrest of Two Looters in Jaunpur
In a significant joint operation, the Machhlishehar and Pavara police in Jaunpur district successfully apprehended two looters after an intense encounter early on Sunday morning. The incident unfolded in the Kunwarpur area, where law enforcement acted swiftly on a crucial tip-off regarding criminal activities.
Details of the Encounter and Arrest
According to Jaunpur Circle Officer (Machhlishehar) Pratima Verma, police teams from both stations cordoned off the Kunwarpur region and initiated a checking drive around midnight on Saturday. During this operation, they attempted to stop two individuals on a motorcycle. However, the suspects opened fire at the police team and tried to make a U-turn to escape.
The police retaliated in self-defense, resulting in one of the accused, Satyendra Kumar Dobre from Etawah district, sustaining a bullet injury. He was captured along with his accomplice, Guddu alias Ikrar from Auraiya. The injured suspect was promptly rushed to a hospital for medical treatment.
Recovery of Stolen Cash and Weapons
During the arrest, authorities seized Rs 4.20 lakh in cash, firearms, cartridges, and the motorcycle used by the accused. This recovery is linked to a previous robbery where the duo had looted Rs 5 lakh from the dickey of a motorcycle belonging to Suryamani Mishra.
The theft occurred on April 7 when Mishra was returning home after withdrawing cash from a bank. He had stopped midway for tea, providing the looters an opportunity to strike. During interrogation, the arrested individuals confessed to this crime, admitting they targeted the motorcycle while Mishra was briefly distracted.
