In a significant enforcement action, the Ghazipur police in Varanasi have attached two immovable properties valued at approximately Rs 60.35 lakh. These assets belong to Amit Singh, an accused in a high-profile codeine drug racket who is currently absconding from authorities.

Ghazipur City Circle Officer Shekhar Sengar provided crucial insights into the case. He confirmed that Amit Singh was named as an accused in a First Information Report (FIR) lodged with the Kotwali police station of the district on November 24, 2025. The FIR was registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
During the course of the investigation, police uncovered that the two properties in question were purchased in the name of Amit Singh's wife, Anita Singh. Authorities noted that she does not have any known or legitimate source of income, raising immediate red flags.

The probe revealed a direct link between these properties and illicit activities. Amit Singh, a resident of Bhudkuda, allegedly used illegal earnings from his involvement in the narcotics trade to acquire the assets. Specifically, the properties are located in Jakhniyan within the Shadiyabad Tehsil area.
Given the circumstances, the police deemed these assets to have been purchased with proceeds from criminal activities. As a result, they were formally attached under the law to prevent their use or disposal by the accused or his associates.
