In a decisive move to tighten law and order, Varanasi Police Commissioner Mohit Agrawal dissolved the Special Operation Group-2 (SOG-2), a unit formed to combat criminal activities such as flesh trade, sex rackets, and gambling. The commissioner expressed dissatisfaction with the unit's performance and ordered its immediate dissolution, directing the formation of a new team.

The workforce at Cantt, Sigra, Ramnagar, and Mirzamurad police stations was also reshuffled.

Warning to Personnel: Perform or Face Action
During a review meeting on Saturday evening, Commissioner Agrawal issued a clear warning to all personnel: they must perform or face consequences. He emphasized that only officers who demonstrate excellence, ensure quality investigations, effectively curb crime, and provide swift resolution to public grievances would retain their positions as station in-charges.
Training and Traffic Management
The commissioner directed station in-charges to assign newly recruited constables six hours each of indoor and outdoor training daily, focusing on practical training in beat duty, public relations, and station-level work. In a review of traffic management, instructions were given to maintain special surveillance on 10 major routes under the RTC scheme, coordinate with traffic marshals, and take strict action against triple riding, driving without number plates, and wrong-side driving. Special vigilance was ordered to bring road accident fatalities to zero.
Zero-Tolerance Policy on Crime Against Women
Commissioner Agrawal issued instructions to adopt a zero-tolerance policy on crimes against women. He also directed action against cow smugglers, thieves, NDPS offenders, and cyber criminals under the Gangster Act and Goonda Act. Quality disposal of IGRS petitions and regular communication with public representatives and traders were emphasized.
This restructuring aims to enhance police efficiency and public safety in Varanasi.
