Police Officers Injured in Varanasi Attack Following Holi Disturbance
In a violent incident in Varanasi, two police officers sustained serious injuries after being attacked by a group of drunkards. The assault occurred in the Parshurampur area under the jurisdiction of the Alinagar police station on Tuesday night.
Response to Public Complaint Leads to Violence
Sub-Inspector Dinesh Singh and Constable Anil Yadav were dispatched to the location following complaints from local residents about drunk individuals creating a disturbance. The officers had been alerted about Holi revellers gathering near a liquor shop in Parashuraampur, where approximately ten youths were making excessive noise and setting off firecrackers.
Upon arrival, the policemen managed to temporarily calm the situation. However, as they were preparing to leave the village, the intoxicated individuals returned armed with sticks and iron rods, launching a brutal attack on the officers.
Severe Injuries and Immediate Medical Response
The assault resulted in significant injuries to both officers. Sub-Inspector Dinesh Singh suffered a severe head wound, while Constable Anil Yadav sustained a fractured hand during the violent confrontation.
Alert villagers quickly notified senior police officials and transported both injured policemen to medical facilities. Doctors referred SI Singh to the trauma centre at Banaras Hindu University in Varanasi for specialized treatment, while Constable Yadav was admitted to a local hospital for care.
Police Investigation and Arrests
Circle Officer Arun Kumar Singh of Chandauli (Pt Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Nagar) confirmed that four suspects have been identified and apprehended in connection with the attack. The arrests followed extensive police raids at potential hideouts of the assailants.
The condition of both injured policemen is currently reported as stable, according to official statements. Police authorities have indicated that the investigation remains ongoing to determine whether additional individuals were involved in the coordinated assault.
Heightened Police Presence and Continued Probe
Following the incident, CO Arun Kumar Singh arrived at the scene with reinforced police forces. Multiple police teams were deployed to track down and arrest those responsible for the attack on the officers.
The police department has emphasized that such violence against law enforcement personnel will not be tolerated, and a thorough investigation is underway to ensure all perpetrators face appropriate legal consequences. The incident has raised concerns about public safety during festival seasons when alcohol-related disturbances sometimes escalate into violence.
