Varanasi 'Revolver Rani' FIR: Woman Booked for Wedding Pistol Firing
Varanasi Woman Booked for Firing Pistol at Wedding

A viral video of a woman firing a pistol at a wedding ceremony in Varanasi, earning her the moniker "Revolver Rani," has resulted in serious legal consequences. The Sarnath police have registered a formal case against her for the reckless display and use of a firearm.

Police Act on Viral Video Evidence

The incident came to light after a police sub-inspector, while on night patrol duty, encountered a widely circulated video titled "Revolver Rani." The footage was alarming, clearly showing a person handing a firearm to a woman, who then proceeded to fire it into the air amidst wedding celebrations. This prompted immediate police action to identify the individuals involved and the circumstances of the event.

Details of the Wedding Incident

The investigation pinpointed the event to the wedding of Shubham Rai. The function was held at a marriage lawn near the Sarnath museum on the night of November 30 transitioning into December 1. Authorities identified the woman in the video as Sonali, a resident of Pandeypur. An accomplice who allegedly handed her the pistol was also implicated.

Following the identification, the Sarnath police station in-charge, Shivanand Sisodia, confirmed that an FIR has been lodged against Sonali and her accomplice. The case has been filed under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act.

Ongoing Investigation and Legal Ramifications

A crucial part of the current probe is to ascertain the licensing status of the firearm used in the video and to determine its direct connection to the accused woman. Celebratory firing, especially with unlicensed weapons, is a severe offense that endangers public safety and is dealt with strictly under Indian law.

The police action underscores a zero-tolerance policy towards the illegal brandishing and use of weapons, even at celebratory events like weddings. The case remains under active investigation as authorities work to complete their findings and proceed with the legal process.
