Veena Vijayan, the daughter of former Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, has sought additional time to appear before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the Cochin Ministers and Rutile Limited (CMRL) case. The ED had summoned her along with promoters of the controversial mining firm for questioning.
Background of the Case
The CMRL case involves allegations of illegal mining and financial irregularities. The ED is investigating potential money laundering and violations of the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA).
Summons Issued
Apart from Veena, the ED has also summoned the promoters of CMRL, a mining company that has been under scrutiny for its operations in Kerala. The agency is examining the firm's financial transactions and their links to political figures.
Veena has requested a postponement of her appearance, citing personal reasons. The ED is yet to respond to her request.
The investigation is part of a broader crackdown on illegal mining activities in the state. The case has drawn significant political attention, with opposition parties criticizing the handling of the investigation.
