Victoria Memorial Bomb Threat: FIR Filed After Email, Facebook Warning

Victoria Memorial Hall Administration Files Police Complaint Over Bomb Threat

Kolkata Police has officially registered a First Information Report (FIR) at Hastings Police Station following a formal written complaint submitted by the Victoria Memorial Hall administration. The complaint was filed on Saturday in response to a threatening message that appeared on the institution's official Facebook page last Friday.

Coordinated Threats Target Heritage Monument

The Facebook threat coincided with an email warning received by Victoria Memorial Hall officials, creating a coordinated security concern that prompted immediate police action. According to the complaint details, the threatening email arrived on March 5 at 8:32 PM through an official administrative account.

The email originated from victomem@gamil.com and was allegedly linked in the official complaint to an individual identified as Vivek Saykar, who used the email address viveck1999@gmail.com. The disturbing message contained explicit threats of violence, stating: "This is the end of 2025, then I will crush, stab, shoot and detonate in Victoria Memorial at a building museum."

Police Investigation and Premises Search

Kolkata Police responded swiftly to the dual threats by conducting an extensive security sweep of the Victoria Memorial premises last Friday. Officers evacuated the heritage property as a precautionary measure before methodically searching the entire area. The comprehensive security operation, however, revealed no suspicious items or immediate dangers on the premises.

Dibakar Karmakar, the security in-charge of Victoria Memorial Hall who filed the official complaint, informed police investigators that an identical threatening message had been posted on the institution's Facebook page. This created parallel digital threats that authorities are now treating with equal seriousness.

Digital Forensics and Technical Analysis Underway

Investigators from Kolkata Police have launched a detailed technical examination to trace the origins of both the threatening email and the social media post. Forensic experts are analyzing electronic trails, IP addresses, and digital footprints associated with both communication channels.

The police investigation team is particularly focused on determining whether the email and Facebook threats originated from the same source or represent coordinated efforts by multiple individuals. Technical specialists are examining metadata, server information, and account registration details to establish clear connections between the threatening communications.

Security protocols at Victoria Memorial Hall have been enhanced following the threats, with increased surveillance and monitoring of both physical premises and digital platforms. Heritage security experts note that such threats against cultural monuments require particularly sensitive handling due to their symbolic importance and public accessibility.

The case represents a significant security challenge for Kolkata Police, combining traditional investigation techniques with sophisticated digital forensics. Authorities have emphasized that threats against public heritage sites are treated with utmost seriousness, given their potential to cause public panic and disrupt cultural activities.

As the investigation progresses, police officials are coordinating with cybercrime specialists and social media platform representatives to gather additional technical evidence. The 2025 timeline mentioned in the threat has added urgency to the investigation, though authorities stress that all threats are treated as immediate concerns regardless of their stated timeframe.
