Vijayawada MP feud: Brother files police complaint over defamation

The ongoing feud between Vijayawada MP Kesineni Sivanath (Chinni) and his elder brother, former MP Kesineni Srinivas (Nani), has taken a dramatic turn with the registration of a police case following a complaint filed by Chinni on Saturday.

Taking serious exception to the allegations on social media by Nani, Chinni approached Vijayawada police, accusing his brother of conducting a “malicious and defamatory campaign” aimed at damaging his reputation. Based on the complaint, police registered cases under various provisions of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Information Technology Act and launched an investigation.

Among the allegations are claims related to the Ursa Clusters case, alleged misuse of Andhra Cricket Association funds, and corruption claims. Nani also reportedly sought intervention from human rights organisations and the Enforcement Directorate against his brother.

What began as a political disagreement within one of Andhra Pradesh’s most prominent business and political families has now escalated into a full-blown legal battle. Kesineni Srinivas Nani served as Vijayawada MP for two consecutive terms (2014-19 and 2019-24), representing the TDP. However, when the TDP decided to give the ticket to his younger brother in the 2024 elections, Nani defected and contested on a YSRCP ticket. He lost to his younger brother by a margin of nearly 2.82 lakh votes.

The brothers were once known for their close relationship. Chinni actively supported Nani during both his campaigns and worked alongside him in political activities. However, differences began surfacing after Chinni entered active politics in 2022 and developed closer ties with the TDP leadership. Although many believed the tensions would ease after the elections, especially after Nani resigned from the YSRCP and announced his withdrawal from active politics, the truce proved short-lived. In recent months, Nani has repeatedly levelled allegations against Chinni through social media posts, public statements, and letters to various authorities.

The Kesineni family is widely known in Andhra Pradesh for building a major transport business, beginning with truck operations and later expanding into private bus services under the banner of Kesineni Tours and Travels.
