Violent Confrontation Erupts During Police Raid in Bathinda Village
A police operation aimed at apprehending a suspected drug peddler in Ghuman Kalan village, under the jurisdiction of the Maur Mandi police station in Bathinda, escalated into a violent confrontation on Thursday. According to official reports, a police team from Maur Mandi police station conducted a raid in Ghuman Kalan village based on credible intelligence indicating that one Sandeep Singh was actively involved in drug peddling activities. Upon detaining Sandeep Singh, the situation quickly deteriorated as family members, including relatives from his uncle's household, reportedly opposed the raid and surrounded the police party.
The group is accused of pelting stones at the officers and tearing the uniform of ASI Paramjit Singh, creating a hostile environment that forced the police to retreat temporarily. In the ensuing confusion, Sandeep Singh managed to escape from the scene, evading immediate capture.

In response to the violent obstruction, authorities registered a First Information Report (FIR) against nine members of the extended family. The charges include serious offenses under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, such as assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from duty, obstructing a public servant, criminal intimidation, unlawful assembly, and rioting while armed with a deadly weapon.
Police officials confirmed that while the accused initially fled during the melee, persistent investigative efforts led to the arrest of four individuals on Saturday. Among those apprehended was the alleged drug peddler, Sandeep Singh, marking a significant breakthrough in the case.

Maur DSP Kuldeep Singh provided details on the operation, noting that the raid was executed under the supervision of Maur SHO Tarundeep Singh. "After the police party was obstructed and attacked, a case was promptly registered. Our teams worked diligently, resulting in the arrest of four family members, including Sandeep Singh, on Saturday," the DSP stated.
He emphasized that the investigation remains active, with authorities continuing to pursue leads and gather evidence to ensure all involved parties are held accountable.
