In a significant verdict against drug trafficking, the IX-additional district judge court in Chodavaram, located in the Anakapalle district of Andhra Pradesh, delivered a stern judgment on Wednesday. The court sentenced four individuals involved in a major marijuana smuggling operation to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment. The convicted smugglers have been identified as Penta Srinivasa Rao, V Nooka Raju, Surla Ramana, and K Rama Rao.

The case dates back to January 8, 2017, when the Kothakota police conducted a routine vehicular check-up at the Dondapudi check post. During this operation, law enforcement officials intercepted two bikes and made a substantial seizure of 80 kilograms of cannabis. The drug peddlers were transporting the illicit substance on these motorcycles, leading to their immediate arrest.
Police Investigation and Charges Filed
Following the interception, the police registered a formal case against the smugglers and initiated a thorough investigation. District police chief Tuhin Sinha provided insights into the meticulous efforts undertaken by the authorities to build a strong case.
