Kanpur: Blind Couple Defrauded of Rs 90,000 in Land Scam by Neighbour
Visually Impaired Couple Defrauded in Kanpur Plot Scam

In a shocking incident from Kanpur, a visually impaired elderly couple fell victim to a cruel land fraud orchestrated by their own neighbour. The Rawatpur police, acting on court orders, registered a formal case on Wednesday after the victims were allegedly cheated out of Rs 90,000 with the false promise of a plot of land.

The Deceptive Offer and Broken Promises

Ram Anuj Tiwari, aged 60, and his wife, both residents of Rawatpur village, are visually impaired. According to the police complaint, their neighbour, identified as Raju Singh Chandel, took undue advantage of their condition. Chandel allegedly lured the couple with an offer to secure a 100-square-yard plot in Rawatpur at a price significantly below the market rate. Tired of living in uncertainty, the couple saw this as an opportunity and agreed to the deal.

Chandel then introduced them to the purported owner of the plot, a woman named Ramdulari. Trusting their neighbour, the Tiwari family finalized the deal for a total amount of Rs 90,000, which they paid in full to Raju Singh Chandel.

The Unraveling of the Scam

The fraud began to surface during the registration process. The documents were manipulated to show the plot area as only 50 square yards, half of what was promised. However, the betrayal did not end there. When the land was physically measured, it was discovered that the actual area was a mere 30 square yards. The couple had paid for 100 square yards but received less than a third of that in reality.

When Ram Anuj Tiwari and his wife protested and demanded either the full land as promised or their money back, they were met with silence. Neither Raju Singh Chandel nor Ramdulari returned the money nor provided the correct land. Left with no recourse, the distressed couple approached the Rawatpur police for justice.

Court Intervention and Police Action

Frustrated by the initial lack of action from the police, the determined couple took their grievance to the court. The judicial intervention proved crucial. On the orders of the court, the Rawatpur police finally registered a formal report and launched an investigation into the matter.

Speaking about the case, Manoj Mishra, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Rawatpur police station, confirmed that a report has been registered and an investigation is currently underway. The police are now tasked with uncovering the details of the scam and bringing the accused to justice.

This incident highlights the vulnerability of specially-abled individuals to financial exploitation and raises serious questions about the efficacy of local law enforcement in addressing the grievances of the most vulnerable sections of society.
