Tragic Double Suicide in Vizag: Software Engineer, Mother Found Dead in Lodge
Vizag Software Engineer, Mother Die by Suicide in Lodge

A heartbreaking incident unfolded in Visakhapatnam over the weekend, where a software engineer and his elderly mother were found dead in a local lodge. The police have launched an investigation into the tragic double suicide, with preliminary reports pointing towards severe family discord as a possible cause.

Details of the Visakhapatnam Lodge Tragedy

The deceased have been identified as Gayappanjan Kudupudi (39), a software engineer employed with a reputed company in Hyderabad, and his mother, Neelavati (59), a resident of Srinivasanagar in the Old Gajuwaka area of Vizag. According to police reports, the mother-son duo visited the Simhachalam area on Thursday evening and checked into a lodge near Adavivaram, which falls under the Gopalapatnam police station limits.

The grim discovery was made on Saturday morning when the lodge management found both of them hanging from the ceiling inside their rented room. The police were immediately alerted and rushed to the scene. No suicide note was recovered from the room, leaving investigators to piece together the motive from circumstantial evidence and family accounts.

Marital Strife and a Troubled Past

Initial investigations by the Gopalapatnam police have revealed a history of marital problems. Gayappanjan, a native of Vizag, was married to a woman from Hyderabad. The marriage was reportedly strained, leading to his wife filing a formal complaint against him in 2023. The couple eventually divorced. Police suspect that the ongoing emotional and psychological fallout from these family issues may have driven both Gayappanjan and his mother to take the extreme step. The bodies have been sent for postmortem examination, and a case has been registered.

Another Youth Ends Life in Vizianagaram

In a separate but equally distressing incident in the region, a 25-year-old man died by suicide at his residence in Vizianagaram town. The deceased, identified as K Ravindhar of Gollaveedhi, was found hanging from a ceiling fan. Police indicated that Ravindhar's marriage to his girlfriend had been fixed, but disputes had erupted between the two families over the alliance. Investigators suspect that these pre-wedding tensions may have pushed the young man to end his life.

Community Shock and Police Investigation

Both incidents have sent shockwaves through their respective communities in Andhra Pradesh. The police in Visakhapatnam and Vizianagaram are continuing their investigations to ascertain the precise sequence of events and the full scope of reasons behind these tragic suicides. They are speaking to relatives and examining all angles. These cases highlight the severe impact of unresolved personal and family conflicts on mental well-being.

The tragedies serve as a somber reminder of the critical need for accessible mental health support and intervention during times of intense personal crisis. Authorities are urging individuals facing severe emotional distress to seek help from family, friends, or professional counselors.
