Double Tragedy Strikes Vizag on Sunday: Three Lives Lost in Separate Road Accidents

A devastating Sunday unfolded in Visakhapatnam with two separate road accidents claiming three lives and leaving two others injured within hours of each other in the Gajuwaka area, casting a shadow over the coastal city.

Morning Horror: Lorry Brake Failure Claims Two Lives at BHVP Signal

The day's tragedy began around 7:30 AM at the BHVP traffic signal when a lorry with failed brakes rammed into stationary vehicles, resulting in two fatalities and one injury. K Rama Krishna (49), an employee at a private motor company in Gajuwaka, was killed while taking his daughter Swapna to the Simhachalam temple to seek blessings before her Class X examinations scheduled to begin Monday, March 16.

"We started around 7:30 am and stopped at the BHVP signal. We did not notice the lorry coming from behind. It must have moved rashly, and we were hit without warning. We were thrown far by the impact, and my father died," recounted Swapna, who escaped with minor injuries and was hospitalized. "He always encouraged me in my studies but never insisted on a particular course."

The second victim was identified as B. Satish (30) from Anakapalli district. Gajuwaka traffic circle inspector Shaik Hussain confirmed that preliminary investigation pointed to brake failure as the primary cause. "It was preliminarily identified that the driver tried to steer towards two-wheelers when he realised the brakes had failed," Hussain stated.

Damaged vehicles were cleared from the scene, and traffic flow on the national highway was eventually restored following the morning tragedy.

Afternoon Tragedy: Scooter Crash Claims Another Life Near Same Location

Before the community could process the morning's events, another fatal accident occurred in the same vicinity around 2 PM. Two young women riding a scooter toward Gajuwaka lost control and crashed into the divider between BHVP Junction and Visakha Dairy.

Adari Mahalakshmi died en route to the hospital, while Chippada Anusha sustained serious injuries. Both women were completing internships at BHEL at the time of the accident.

"This afternoon around 2 pm, Mahalakshmi and Anusha, who are doing internships at BHEL, were riding a two-wheeler from BHVP towards Visakha Dairy when they lost control and hit the divider, causing a self-accident. They fell onto the road with serious injuries," explained Inspector Hussain. "Gajuwaka traffic road safety in-charge, head constable Srikant, immediately shifted them to hospital. Mahalakshmi died on the way, while Anusha was saved."

Community Reels from Sudden Losses

The back-to-back accidents have left multiple families grieving unexpected losses. Rama Krishna's death particularly resonated as he was supporting his daughter's educational journey moments before the tragedy. The incident involving the two young interns highlighted the vulnerability of daily commuters in the area.

Police officials described both incidents as unfortunate reminders of road safety challenges. The concentration of accidents in the BHVP area within hours has raised concerns about traffic management and vehicle maintenance standards in the region.
