A wanted criminal was apprehended by the Faridabad police following a brief encounter late Tuesday night. The accused, identified as Ravi, was wanted in multiple cases including robbery and assault. According to police officials, a tip-off led to a chase, during which the suspect fired at officers, prompting retaliation. Ravi sustained a bullet injury to his leg and was subsequently overpowered. He has been admitted to a local hospital under police custody. Authorities have recovered a country-made pistol and stolen items from his possession. Further investigation is underway to uncover his network and other possible accomplices.
Encounter Details
The incident occurred around 11:30 PM in the Sector 14 area of Faridabad. A police patrol team spotted Ravi and attempted to stop him, but he tried to flee on a motorcycle. A chase ensued, and when cornered, the accused opened fire. In self-defense, the police returned fire, hitting him in the leg. He was immediately rushed to the hospital and is reported to be stable. No police personnel were injured during the exchange.
Background of the Accused
Ravi, a resident of nearby Palwal district, had been on the run for over a year. He was involved in at least half a dozen criminal cases, including dacoity and car theft. The police had declared a reward of Rs 25,000 for his arrest. His arrest is expected to help solve several pending cases in the region.
The police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Arms Act. The motorcycle used by the accused has been seized for further investigation. The operation was led by ACP Rajesh Kumar, who praised the team for their swift action.
