Wanted Criminal Nabbed in Dramatic Police Encounter
A wanted criminal, carrying a cash reward of Rs 25,000 on his head, was arrested along with an accomplice following a police encounter in Kaushambi district on Tuesday night. The arrested individual, identified as Kuldeep, sustained a bullet injury during the exchange of fire and was subsequently admitted to the district hospital for medical treatment.
Recovery of Weapons and the Chase
Following the encounter, the police team recovered significant evidence from the possession of the accused. The seized items included a country-made pistol of 0.315 bore, one used cartridge, one unused cartridge, and a motorcycle. According to police officials, the incident unfolded when a joint team from the Karari police station and the SWAT unit was conducting routine checks near the Arka-Dariyapur Road.
The officers noticed two men behaving suspiciously on a motorcycle. When the police signaled them to stop for questioning, the duo attempted to speed away and escape. The police quickly surrounded them, and in a desperate move, one of the men, later identified as Kuldeep, opened fire at the police personnel. The police team retaliated in self-defense, leading to Kuldeep being injured in the leg.
Criminal History and Accomplice Arrest
Police investigations revealed that the main accused, Kuldeep, is a resident of Puramufti in Prayagraj. He has a significant criminal record, with four active criminal cases pending against him in the districts of Kaushambi and Pratapgarh. His attempt to evade capture adds another chapter to his run-ins with the law.
His accomplice, identified as Mithun, a resident of Mandar, did not sustain injuries but was arrested after a brief chase on foot. Both individuals are now in police custody, and further interrogation is underway to uncover more details about their activities and possible involvement in other crimes.
The successful operation highlights the continued vigilance of the Uttar Pradesh Police in tracking down individuals with rewards on their heads and ensuring they are brought to justice. The recovery of the illegal firearm also points to ongoing efforts to curb the use of such weapons in criminal activities.
