A man wanted in connection with an attempted murder case was arrested following an encounter near the KGP underpass in the Fajjupur area of Faridabad late Thursday night. The accused, identified as Sandeep alias Chenta, was involved in an attack at Chandila Food Hotel in Sector 12 on Wednesday, where he assaulted a hotel employee and pointed a pistol at him in an attempt to kill him.
Police Operation and Encounter
Addressing a press conference, ACP (crime) Varun Kumar Dahiya stated that the police team received intelligence that the accused would be traveling on a motorcycle along the Chandpur-Atali Road on Thursday. Acting on the tip-off, officers set up a barricade on the route and attempted to stop him for questioning. However, Sandeep tried to flee, prompting a chase.
Exchange of Fire
During the pursuit, the accused opened fire on the police team in an effort to escape. In retaliatory firing, Sandeep sustained a bullet injury in his left leg. He was initially given medical treatment at a nearby facility and later admitted to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi. Police confirmed that his condition is stable.
Legal Action and Recovery
A fresh attempt-to-murder case has been registered against the accused for firing at the police. From the scene, authorities recovered a country-made pistol, three empty cartridge shells, and a Splendor motorcycle used by Sandeep. Investigators revealed that Sandeep has a long criminal history, with more than seven cases registered against him in Faridabad, Karnal, and Bhiwadi in Rajasthan. These cases include robbery, dacoity, assault, attempt to murder, and offenses under the Arms Act.
