Wife and Two Contract Killers Arrested for Husband's Murder in Unnao Village
Police in Unnao district have made a significant breakthrough in a chilling murder case, arresting a truck driver's wife and two alleged contract killers for the brutal murder of her husband in Chamrauli village. The arrests follow a detailed investigation that uncovered a plot driven by domestic strife and alleged infidelity.
Discovery of the Body and Initial Investigation
The victim, identified as Shrikant alias Jagli, 35, a resident of Chamrauli village under Ajgain Kotwali, was found dead in a wheat field on March 19. His hands were tied behind his back with a saree, presenting a grim scene. A post-mortem examination revealed a broken rib, though no external injury marks were visible on the body, suggesting a violent struggle. Following the recovery of the body, Shrikant's mother, Sundara, lodged a First Information Report (FIR) against his wife, Sukhrani, and other unidentified persons, setting the stage for a police probe.
Police Crack the Case Through Digital Evidence
Ajgain Kotwali inspector Suresh Singh stated that the case was cracked after police meticulously examined the call detail records of Sukhrani's phone and subjected her to intense questioning. During interrogation, she allegedly confessed to orchestrating the murder. According to police, Sukhrani revealed that she had married Shrikant in a love marriage and the couple had a child together. However, the relationship soured as Shrikant became suspicious of her and frequently assaulted both her and their child while under the influence of intoxicants.
Motives and the Murder Plot
Police further disclosed that Sukhrani alleged Shrikant was involved with another woman in the village and often accused her of infidelity, exacerbating the domestic turmoil. Driven by desperation and resentment, she conspired to have him killed. Investigators said she offered Rs 40,000 to two individuals: Ankit Yadav of Chitauli village under Makhi police station and Mohit Singh of Sadhira village under Ajgain. On the night of March 17, Sukhrani allegedly lured Shrikant to a field owned by Rajesh Yadav, where Ankit and Mohit were waiting in ambush.
Execution of the Crime and Arrests
The two alleged contract killers overpowered Shrikant, tied his hands with a saree, and beat him to death before callously dumping his body in the field. In a swift operation, police arrested Ankit and Mohit near Chamrauli bazaar on Saturday. During the arrest, authorities recovered mobile phones and Rs 10,950 from the remaining contract amount, providing crucial evidence. All three accused—Sukhrani, Ankit Yadav, and Mohit Singh—have been booked on charges including murder and concealment of evidence. Sukhrani was sent to jail along with her two-year-old son after being produced in court, highlighting the tragic fallout of the crime.
This case underscores severe issues of domestic violence and the extreme measures some individuals resort to when faced with abusive situations. The police's use of digital forensics and interrogation techniques proved pivotal in unraveling the conspiracy, leading to the arrests and bringing a measure of justice to the victim's family.
