Wife Recounts Husband's Continuous Gangster Threats Before Fatal Shooting Outside SSP Office

A day after the brazen daylight killing of Gurvinder Singh outside the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) office in Mohali, his grieving wife has come forward with chilling revelations about the continuous threats they faced from gangsters for nearly two years.

Two Years of Living Under Threat

As she waited outside Civil Hospital in Phase 6 where her husband's postmortem was being conducted, Amarjit Kaur told reporters that Gurvinder had been receiving persistent threats from gangsters since 2024. The threats became so severe that the couple was forced to leave Mohali and relocate to Gurdaspur for safety.

"I met Gurvinder in 2023. When the threats started, he left Mohali and shifted with me to Gurdaspur," she revealed. "For the past one and a half years, he had been living in Gurdaspur and would come to Mohali only on court hearing dates."

Constant Vigilance and Narrow Escape

Amarjit described the extreme precautions they took due to the threats. "Because of the threat, I never allowed him to come alone. I accompanied him every time," she said, highlighting their constant state of vigilance.

On Wednesday, Gurvinder came to Mohali with his wife to attend a court hearing in a case related to the recovery of 4 kg of opium. In a horrifying twist, Amarjit narrowly escaped death herself when a bullet grazed her head during the attack.

Patterns of Surveillance and Targeting

Amarjit further revealed that Gurvinder often sensed they were being followed. "Many times he felt that unknown vehicles were tailing us. He mentioned it earlier too, but we didn't take it seriously," she recounted. "Now it feels he was right — the gangsters may have been tracking him for a long time."

According to her account, Gurvinder's old Hyundai i20 car may have made him easily identifiable to his attackers. "We always parked near the SSP office side and entered the court complex from there. This time too, the car was parked at the same spot," she explained.

She described the attack in detail: "When we were returning after the hearing and Gurvinder opened the boot of the car, a shooter fired the first shot from behind and then continued firing from the front."

Investigation and Responsibility Claims

Gurvinder Singh was an accused in the Gurlal Brar murder case. Gurlal Brar was the cousin of terrorist Goldy Brar, and a social media post from an account purportedly belonging to Goldy Brar and Rohit Godara has claimed responsibility for the killing.

Mohali police have registered a case against Goldy Brar and others and have initiated a comprehensive investigation into the incident.

Postmortem and Family Dispute

On Thursday, a four-member medical board including forensic experts conducted Gurvinder's postmortem at Civil Hospital, Phase 6. The procedure lasted nearly two hours and was videographed throughout for documentation purposes. After completion, the body was handed over to the family.

A dispute broke out outside the hospital mortuary regarding Gurvinder's last rites. His wife wanted to take the body to Gurdaspur, where the couple had been living, while his grandmother insisted that the cremation be held in his native village Rurki Pukhta, where he was born and raised.

The disagreement continued for several hours until DSP City-2 Harsimran Singh Bal intervened, held talks with the family, and helped resolve the issue. It was finally decided that Gurvinder's last rites would be performed in his ancestral village, Rurki Pukhta.

Ongoing Police Investigation

Police officials have confirmed that the investigation is ongoing and all aspects of the case are being thoroughly examined. "We are looking into every angle and following all possible leads," a senior police official stated.

The killing has sent shockwaves through the community and raised serious questions about security in the vicinity of police offices and court complexes.
