Shocking Abduction and Assault in Kolkata
A 28-year-old married woman has filed a formal police complaint detailing a horrifying ordeal of abduction, physical assault, and molestation that lasted for nearly an hour inside a moving car in Kolkata on Friday night.
The Terrifying Sequence of Events
The incident occurred around 9 pm on Friday when the woman was waiting for a bus near Ambedkar Setu in the East Topsia Road area close to Science City. According to her statement to authorities, she was initially offered a lift but then forcibly pulled into the vehicle from under the Ambedkar bridge.
The victim revealed to police investigators that she recognized one of the three occupants inside the car. She had been in contact with this individual for the past couple of months. However, the other two men were complete strangers to her.
Once inside the vehicle, the assailants administered some form of drug to the woman, causing her to fall into a stupor. While she cannot recall specific details due to her drugged state, she distinctly remembered feeling outraged and violated throughout the traumatic experience.
Discovery and Police Response
After approximately an hour of torment, the youths abandoned their victim in the Maidan area, where she was found in a heavily drugged condition. Police personnel discovered the disoriented woman and immediately transported her to a hospital for medical attention.
Rupesh Kumar, Joint CP (Crime & Traffic), confirmed the severity of the incident stating: "The main accused is known to the complainant. He forced her to sit in a car and then he and his two friends physically assaulted her causing injuries. They touched her inappropriately, outraged her modesty and used filthy language. The case is under investigation."
Medical professionals at the hospital recorded her initial statement while she received treatment. The Pragati Maidan police station and the detective department have launched a comprehensive investigation based on her formal complaint.
Ongoing Investigation Efforts
Investigators are currently examining CCTV footage from surrounding areas to trace the movement of the vehicle and identify the perpetrators. Police officials acknowledged that there are several gaps in her statement, likely due to the effects of the administered drug, and they are working to establish a complete chain of events.
An investigating officer revealed: "We will speak to her once she recovers. Once the woman is stable, arrangements will be made to record her confidential statement in court. A medical examination will also be conducted as per the court's directive."
The victim, who resides in east Kolkata, continues to receive medical care as authorities pursue all available leads to bring the perpetrators to justice.
