Lucknow: The bodies of a woman and her six-year-old son were recovered from the Gomti River near the Lete Hue Hanuman temple area in Chowk, police said on Monday.
Recovery Operation
Police received information around 9 pm that a woman's body was seen floating in the river. A team reached the spot and with the help of divers and locals retrieved both bodies from the water. The child's body was found nearly 100 metres away from the woman, according to police sources.
Handwritten Note Found
During the preliminary investigation, a handwritten note was recovered from the woman's burqa. The note mentioned harassment by her in-laws, including her brother-in-law and mother-in-law, following the death of her husband approximately one-and-a-half years ago. Police sources confirmed the contents of the note.
Identification by Family
Family members later identified the deceased after approaching the police station to report the woman missing for the past two days. The family had been searching for her since she went missing.
Description of the Deceased
SHO Nageshwar Upadhyay stated that the woman was wearing a burqa and green salwar, while the child was dressed in a blue T-shirt and denim shorts. Forensic teams inspected the scene and collected evidence, including the note and other items.
Investigation Underway
The bodies have been sent for postmortem examination, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to the deaths. Police are questioning family members and neighbors to gather more details about the alleged harassment and the events leading up to the incident.
Authorities are also examining the note for any additional clues. The case has been registered, and legal proceedings will follow based on the findings of the investigation.
