In a shocking incident, the Khanna Police have taken swift action by arresting a woman for allegedly making threatening phone calls to renowned Punjabi singer and actor Amar Noorie, the widow of late legendary singer Sardool Sikandar. The accused, along with her unidentified associates, is accused of impersonating a police officer and pressuring Noorie to force her son, singer Alap Sikandar, to abandon his musical career.
Details of the Threatening Call
According to the police complaint, the distressing episode began on December 16. Amar Noorie received a call from an unknown number. The caller, identifying himself as Inspector Gurmeet Singh, proceeded to interrogate her about her son Alap. The impersonator made serious false claims, stating that illegal ammunition had been found in Alap's vehicle.
He further referenced a specific cultural event in Delhi on December 7, where Alap had performed alongside popular artists A P Dhillon and Babbu Mann. The core of the threat was a direct ultimatum: the caller warned Noorie to convince her son to quit singing and choose another profession, or face dire consequences.
Police Response and Arrest
Following Noorie's formal complaint, the City-2 Khanna Police promptly registered a First Information Report (FIR). The case has been filed under relevant sections of the new Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including sections 351(3) and 204. Ensuring the family's safety was an immediate priority, and police security was provided to them.
Through investigation, the police identified and arrested one accused: Sandeep Kaur, a resident of Saidpur village in Sultanpur Lodhi, Kapurthala district. While her accomplices remain at large, the police have issued notices to two other individuals, directing them to join the investigation. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Mohit Kumar Singla confirmed the details of the case and the ongoing efforts to trace all involved.
Investigation and Next Steps
Initial attempts by Amar Noorie to seek help revealed some communication hurdles. After the threatening call, she tried contacting the munshi of the concerned police station and a DSP, but received no answer initially. The munshi later responded and advised her to get in touch with Inspector Hardeep Singh, the Station House Officer (SHO) of City-2 Khanna police station.
The Khanna Police have affirmed that the investigation is actively progressing. Teams are working to identify and apprehend the remaining individuals linked to the threatening call. The primary focus remains on ensuring the complete safety of the Sikandar family while bringing all perpetrators to justice.
