Woman Attempts Suicide After Accusing Husband of Molesting Daughter
Woman Attempts Suicide After Molestation Allegation

A 46-year-old woman in Chennai attempted suicide on Tuesday, alleging that the police had failed to arrest her second husband for molesting her 15-year-old daughter. The woman, who is now in stable condition at a government hospital, had filed a complaint under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act based on which a case was registered and an investigation is underway.

Background of the Case

The woman married her partner in 2018 after separating from her first husband, with whom she had two children. She claimed to have lent him Rs 2 lakh and 15 sovereigns of gold to support his lorry transport business. However, the relationship soured after the man allegedly began an affair with another woman.

Escalation and Arrest

In the last week of May, a heated argument between the couple turned physical, leading to the man's arrest on May 20. During his absence, the woman and her relatives allegedly removed parts from his lorries. After he was released on bail, the man demanded the return of the parts, while the woman insisted on getting back her jewels and cash.

POCSO Complaint

On June 4, the woman lodged a complaint under the POCSO Act, accusing her husband of misbehaving with her daughter, a Class X student. Police have registered a case and are investigating the allegations. However, initial probes suggest that the complaint may have been filed to settle a personal score with her partner.

Police Investigation

Police officials stated that they are verifying the woman's claims. They noted that the allegations are being examined thoroughly, and the truth will be established after a detailed investigation. The woman's attempt to harm herself has added a new dimension to the case, prompting authorities to handle the matter with sensitivity.

Current Status

The woman is currently under medical observation and is reported to be out of danger. The police have assured that they will take appropriate action based on the findings of the investigation. Meanwhile, the accused husband remains at large, and efforts are on to locate him.
