Woman Constable Caught Taking Rs 10,000 Bribe in Kalaburagi

Kalaburagi: In a significant anti-corruption operation, Lokayukta police apprehended a woman police constable from Station Bazar police station on Sunday for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000. The constable, identified as Jyothi, was caught red-handed while receiving the amount from the complainant.

Details of the Incident

According to officials, Jyothi had assured the complainant, a woman, that she would ensure punishment for the accused in a Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) case pending in court. The bribe was demanded to prepare a chargesheet favorable to the complainant, thereby facilitating the conviction of the accused.

Accomplice Flees

Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Shivasharanappa, who is also allegedly involved in the bribery scheme, managed to flee the scene during the trap. He is believed to have collaborated with Jyothi in making the promise to the complainant. A search operation is currently underway to locate him.

Operation Led by Lokayukta

The trap was executed under the guidance of Lokayukta Superintendent of Police Siddaraju C. Lokayukta Inspector Arun Kumar Murugundi led the team that successfully caught the constable in the act. The operation highlights the ongoing efforts to curb corruption within the police force.

The Lokayukta has urged the public to come forward with any information regarding ASI Shivasharanappa's whereabouts. Further investigations are ongoing to determine the extent of the conspiracy and any other individuals involved.
