Woman, Daughter-in-Law Attempt Suicide in UP's Bijnor

Bijnor: A woman and her daughter-in-law were hospitalized in critical condition after allegedly attempting suicide following a prolonged domestic dispute in Uttar Pradesh's Bijnor district on Wednesday, police said.

Incident Details

According to Circle Officer (Dhampur) Anjani Kumar Chaturvedi, the incident occurred in Gallakhedi village under the Syohara police station limits. Mithlesh (50), wife of Antar Singh, and her daughter-in-law Deepanshi (30), wife of Abhikant Yadav, had been involved in frequent arguments over the past few days.

The situation allegedly escalated on Wednesday when Deepanshi reportedly poured kerosene on herself and set herself on fire during the dispute. Around the same time, Mithlesh allegedly consumed a poisonous substance, police said.

Hospitalization and Condition

Family members and locals rushed the two women to the hospital. Deepanshi was referred to Delhi's Safdarjung Hospital for treatment, while Mithlesh was admitted to a higher medical center in Bijnor. Both are reported to be in serious condition.

Investigation Underway

Police have launched an investigation to ascertain the circumstances leading to the incident and are recording statements of family members. Further inquiry is underway, officials said.
