Tragic Accident Claims Life of Mohali Woman

A 32-year-old woman lost her life in a devastating road accident that occurred in Chandigarh last week. Archana, a resident of Mundi Kharar in Mohali, succumbed to her injuries at the Post Graduate Institute (PGI) on Friday night, four days after the horrific collision.

The Fateful Evening

The tragedy unfolded on November 24 around 7 PM when Archana was riding pillion on her colleague Deepika's scooter. Both women were returning home after work at an immigration firm in Sector 8. As they entered Sector 10 from the Sector 9/10 dividing road and turned toward a petrol station, their lives changed forever.

A speeding Mahindra Scorpio SUV, allegedly driven by a Class XII student, rammed into their scooter head-on. The impact was so severe that both women were thrown from the vehicle and sustained critical injuries. The student was returning home with friends after attending tuition classes when the accident occurred.

Emergency Response and Treatment

Quick-thinking passersby immediately gathered at the accident spot and alerted the police control room by dialing 112. A PCR vehicle and ambulance rushed to the scene and transported both injured women to Government Multi-Specialty Hospital in Sector 16.

Due to the seriousness of their condition, doctors referred both patients to PGI for advanced treatment. Archana fought for her life for four days before ultimately succumbing to her injuries. Meanwhile, Deepika's family moved her to a hospital in Amritsar, where doctors report her condition as stable.

Police Action and Investigation

Based on Deepika's statement to Sector 3 police, authorities have registered a case against the SUV driver, who resides in MDC, Sector 6, Panchkula. Police have initiated a probe into rash and negligent driving and are investigating the circumstances that led to the fatal accident.

Archana's family had been planning her wedding in the near future, adding to the tragedy of her untimely death. After completing the autopsy procedure, her body was handed over to her grieving family members. The last rites were performed at Sector 25 on Saturday.

Police officials have issued a strong warning to parents, urging them to ensure that minors do not drive vehicles. They have emphasized that strict legal action will be taken in such cases to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
