Woman Dies by Suicide After Dowry Harassment in Greater Noida

A 24-year-old woman allegedly died by suicide after jumping from the roof of her house in Greater Noida’s Ecotech-III area. Her family has accused her husband and in-laws of dowry harassment, police said on Monday.

Incident Details

According to police officials, the deceased has been identified as Deepika, a resident of Kudi Khera village under Badalpur police station limits. She had married Hrithik, a resident of Jalpura village, approximately one-and-a-half years ago.

The incident occurred on Sunday night when Deepika allegedly jumped from the terrace of her house after being distressed over alleged dowry-related harassment by her husband and in-laws. She sustained critical injuries and later succumbed to them.

Police Response

After receiving information, police from Ecotech-III police station reached the spot and sent the body for post-mortem examination after completing legal formalities. Based on a complaint lodged by the woman’s father, an FIR has been registered under relevant sections related to dowry harassment and abetment.

Police said the accused husband, Hrithik, and father-in-law, Manoj, have been arrested in connection with the case. Officials said further legal proceedings are underway and the matter is being investigated from all angles. Police are also recording statements of family members and collecting evidence related to the allegations made by the victim’s family.

Background

The victim had been facing harassment for dowry since her marriage, according to her family. The accused allegedly demanded additional dowry and subjected her to mental and physical torture. The family’s complaint led to the immediate arrest of the two accused.

The case highlights the persistent issue of dowry-related violence in the region. Authorities have urged women facing similar harassment to seek help through helplines and legal channels.
