Tragic End During Video Call Shocks Kanpur Neighborhood
A young woman named Mona took her own life during a heartbreaking WhatsApp video call with her husband in Kanpur's Ramlala Mohalla area on Wednesday evening. The incident occurred shortly after a violent argument over money for alcohol between the couple.
The Fatal Argument Over Alcohol Money
The tragedy unfolded when Shubham Diwakar, Mona's husband and a known alcoholic, returned from work on Wednesday evening. He immediately demanded money from his wife to purchase alcohol. When Mona refused to give him the money, Diwakar became violent and assaulted her severely. He then forcibly took the money and left their home to drink.
Approximately 16 minutes after the violent confrontation, Mona made a tearful video call to her husband. During this emotional call, the distraught woman hanged herself while Diwakar watched helplessly through the video connection.
Failed Rescue Attempt and Community Outrage
Diwakar rushed home immediately after witnessing the tragic event, but found the door locked from inside. Neighbors alerted the police, who arrived promptly and broke down the door. Police officers attempted to revive Mona using CPR, but she had already passed away.
The couple had a love marriage seven years ago and were parents to two young children. Mona worked as a welcome girl at wedding functions to help support the family financially, while Diwakar was employed with a private company.
When news of Mona's death spread, her friends from work gathered outside the postmortem house where her body was taken. In a fit of anger, they surrounded Diwakar and beat him severely. The chaotic situation continued for approximately two hours as emotions ran high.
Police Investigation and Evidence Concerns
Mona's friends have made serious allegations against Diwakar, accusing him of deleting call history from her mobile phone to destroy potential evidence. Rawatpur police station in-charge Manoj Mishra stated that further action will be taken based on evidence, necessary findings, and the autopsy report.
The incident has highlighted the severe consequences of domestic violence and alcohol abuse in Indian households, leaving two children without their mother and a community in mourning.
