Tragedy Strikes Prominent Delhi Family
A 38-year-old woman, who was the daughter-in-law of a well-known industrialist, allegedly died by suicide at her residence in southwest Delhi's upscale Vasant Vihar neighborhood on Tuesday. The incident has sent shockwaves through the community and prompted a police investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.
Discovery and Emergency Response
The tragic discovery was made by the woman's husband when he returned from his morning gym session around 9 AM. According to family lawyer Rajinder Singh, the husband had received a call from the woman's mother while he was at the gym, alerting him that she wasn't answering her phone. Upon rushing home, he found the bedroom door locked and when he managed to open it, discovered his wife unconscious.
The husband immediately called household staff for assistance and within five minutes, they transported her to a nearby hospital. Medical professionals at the hospital declared her dead on arrival. The hospital authorities informed the police about the death approximately at 12 PM.
Police Investigation and Evidence Collection
Delhi police have initiated formal inquest proceedings under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, which deals with inquiry and reporting on suicide and unnatural deaths. While conducting their preliminary investigation, officers confirmed that no suicide note was found at the scene.
However, police did seize a personal diary belonging to the deceased woman, in which she had written extensively about her relationship with her husband and her thoughts on love and trust. A senior police officer involved in the case stated, "In the probe till now, she has not blamed anyone in the diary."
The body was transferred to Safdarjung Hospital's mortuary for a post-mortem examination, after which it was released to the family to conduct her final rites.
Conflicting Family Accounts Emerge
The tragedy has revealed contrasting narratives from different family members. At the hospital mortuary, the woman's brother made serious allegations, claiming that the couple's relationship had been strained and contentious. He alleged that his sister had been subjected to physical abuse and that her husband was involved in an extramarital affair.
"My sister had called and told me about the torture," the brother claimed during his emotional statement to authorities.
However, the family's legal representative, Rajinder Singh, vehemently denied these allegations, describing them as "completely baseless." He emphasized that the couple had been married since 2010 and had built a life together for 15 years, raising two children. Singh stated that both families had been cooperating amicably and had initially preferred to avoid a post-mortem, wishing to cremate the woman with full respect and dignity.
Police have recorded statements from the husband and other family members as the investigation continues to determine the exact circumstances that led to this tragic outcome.
