Woman Dies, Manager Injured in Escape Attempt During Pune Spa Raid
A tragic incident unfolded in Pune on Monday afternoon when a 30-year-old woman, allegedly forced into prostitution, died while attempting to escape a police raid at a spa in Vimannagar. The spa manager, aged 40, sustained serious injuries in the same escape attempt.
Police Raid Leads to Fatal Escape Bid
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone VII) Somay Munde, a team from the Airport police station conducted a raid at the first-floor spa in a commercial building off Pune-Nagar Road around 3:30 PM. The raid was initiated based on a tip-off about illegal activities at the establishment.
"It is a large spa with several rooms. Four people were inside when the police knocked and identified themselves," Munde stated. Instead of opening the door, the woman and the spa manager bolted it from inside and moved to the balcony with another person.
Descent Turns Deadly as Drainage Pipe Fails
In a desperate bid to flee, the woman and the manager decided to climb down a drainage pipe from the balcony. The manager began descending first, followed by the woman, who hailed from West Bengal. However, the pipe gave way under their combined weight, causing both to fall into the parking area of the commercial building.
"The manager suffered fractures to his legs, while the woman suffered severe head injuries after landing on her head," Munde explained. The police team rushed to the parking area and shifted the injured to a nearby hospital, where the woman was declared dead.
Victim of Flesh Trade Racket Identified
Munde confirmed that the deceased was a victim of a flesh trade racket. "Another victim was also found at the spa," he added, highlighting the illicit operations at the facility. The spa had been operational for several months, and this was its first police raid despite prior tip-offs about illegal activities.
The incident has shed light on the dark underbelly of such establishments in the area, prompting further investigation into the prostitution racket and the circumstances leading to the woman's death.
