A long-standing feud within the erstwhile royal family of Nagod in Satna district escalated into violence on Thursday when a woman allegedly opened fire with a licensed rifle during a heated confrontation at the historic Parsmania Garhi, critically injuring Yogita Singh, wife of Rupendra Singh, alias Baba Raja, police said.
Arrest and Investigation
Police arrested the accused woman, identified as Sunita Parihar, and recovered the licensed rifle allegedly used in the shooting. Officers stated that a detailed investigation is underway to ascertain the sequence of events and circumstances leading to the incident.
FIR Details
According to the First Information Report (FIR), a copy of which is with TOI, Yogita Singh stated that she went to her ancestral house at Parsmania along with her son, Prithudev Singh, and brother Nagendra Singh Rathore on Thursday afternoon. In her complaint, lodged at Unchehara police station, she alleged that Sunita Parihar, who was staying at the property, began abusing her and asked her to leave the house.
Yogita alleged in the FIR that when she refused to leave, the accused threatened to kill her and opened fire “with intent to kill.” She stated that one bullet struck the left side of her abdomen. She further alleged that shots were also fired at her sons and that the woman had assaulted her in the past as well. Family members alleged that multiple rounds were fired during the incident.
Family's Account
Speaking to local media, Yogita’s mother, Narendra Kumari, claimed that Sunita fired multiple rounds from a window. Yogita was first taken to a hospital in Satna and later shifted to a private hospital in Rewa, where she underwent surgery. Doctors said her condition is now stable, but she remains under observation.
“The accused has been arrested, the weapon suspected to have been used in the incident has been recovered and is being examined. Multiple rounds were fired by the accused. A probe is on,” Satna Superintendent of Police Hansraj Singh told TOI.
Historical Context
The Nagod princely state was established in 1478 AD by Parihar Rajputs and merged with the Indian Union in 1950. The state was known as “Unchahara” after Unchehara, its original capital until the 18th century.
