Senior Woman Found Murdered in Udham Singh Nagar Residence; Tenant Couple Detained

In a shocking incident, a 65-year-old woman was discovered dead at her residence in the Devbhoomi Colony of the Khatima area within Udham Singh Nagar district on Wednesday. The victim, identified as Janki Chandra, lived alone on the first floor of her two-storey house following the death of her husband. The ground floor of the property had been rented out to a couple, adding a layer of complexity to the ongoing investigation.

Discovery of the Crime

The grim discovery was made after the woman's son, an Army personnel stationed in Punjab, grew concerned when he was unable to reach his mother for two consecutive days. After repeated failed attempts to contact her, he promptly alerted relatives living nearby. Upon arriving at the house, the relatives found the main door locked from the outside. After gaining entry, they were horrified to find Janki Chandra lying in a pool of blood, prompting an immediate call to the police.

Police Investigation and Initial Findings

Khatima Circle Officer Vimal Rawat provided details on the preliminary investigation, stating, "Our initial assessment indicates that the woman was attacked from behind with an iron rod, resulting in severe and fatal head injuries. The perpetrators are suspected to have locked the door from the outside before fleeing the scene." The body has been sent for a postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death and gather further forensic evidence.

Detentions and Ongoing Probe

In a significant development, police have detained the tenant couple who resided on the ground floor for intensive questioning. Authorities are also meticulously reviewing CCTV footage from the surrounding area to identify any suspicious activity or individuals. To ensure a thorough investigation, a special investigation team has been constituted to delve deeper into the case and uncover the motives behind this brutal crime.

Background of the Victim

Neighbors described Janki Chandra as a devout individual who was actively associated with the Brahma Kumaris organization. She regularly attended religious gatherings and was known for her peaceful demeanor. The tragedy has left the community in mourning, as she is survived by two married daughters and an unmarried son, who is currently serving in the Army. The incident highlights growing concerns over the safety of senior citizens living alone, prompting calls for enhanced security measures and community vigilance.
